What Is Invisalign?

Are you in search of solutions to straighten your teeth without interfering with your smile? If so, you may want to consider Invisalign. The virtually invisible aligners will gently and discreetly shift your teeth into place, delivering the straight smile you’ve always desired!

Invisalign: Your Smile Reimagined

Brought to you by Align Technology, Invisalign has taken the world of orthodontics by storm. It offers a convenient and comfortable solution to achieve your perfect smile regardless of your age. Your customized aligners fit snugly over your teeth, applying the right amount of force needed in the right place at the right time. Made of the proprietary multilayer SmartTrack material, each aligner gently shifts your teeth vertically or horizontally, and even rotates them when needed, following your custom treatment plan.

The Invisalign Advantage

Invisalign is your clear choice for orthodontic treatment. Imagine transforming your smile without having to deal with wires or brackets. The Invisalign trays are smooth and incredibly comfortable as compared to traditional metal braces.

Invisalign aligners are removable, allowing you to enjoy your favorite foods without any restrictions. Maintaining proper oral hygiene practices is a breeze. Simply remove your aligners, brush, and floss, then put them right back in. With Invisalign, teens won’t have to worry about metal braces during sports activities or participating in band. Better yet, Invisalign Teen aligners come with compliance indicators to ensure adequate use. Have a special occasion coming up? All you need to do is remove your aligners and pop them back in when done. Even if you decide to leave them on, nobody will notice they are there.

Invisalign’s dramatic results speak for themselves. You’ll enjoy beautifully straight teeth and a dazzling smile up to 50 percent faster than with metal braces. The SmartTrack material and SmartForce features make Invisalign efficient for correcting complex cases. With these innovations, we can align your teeth with more precision!

Health Benefits of Aligned Teeth

Aligned teeth have benefits extending far beyond a beautiful smile. Straightening your teeth will reflect significantly on your oral health. A crowded mouth or teeth that are too widely spaced out often result in swollen, red gums and periodontal (gum) disease. Aligned teeth allow your gums to fit more securely around your teeth, protecting them from potential periodontal problems.

If untreated, gum disease and tooth decay can potentially cause a host of dental problems requiring involved and costly treatments down the road. Additionally, gum disease has been linked to health conditions, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and more. Invisalign aligners make cleaning your teeth easier, which in turn reduces your risk of developing dental problems.

Conditions Treated Using Invisalign

At Dental Care of Greensboro, our orthodontists use Invisalign to correct a range of mild to complex cases including the following:

Overbite: Overbites are characterized by upper front teeth that close in front of the lower front teeth. Most people naturally have at least a little overbite. When the overbite is too large, it can cause a host of issues including gum problems or irritation, the lower teeth wearing down, or pain in your jaw.

Underbite: An underbite involves your lower front teeth protruding past your upper teeth. In many cases, this stems from a problem with your lower jaw being too far forward. An underbite may make it hard to chew properly or speak clearly, and it may cause your teeth to wear down more quickly. While Invisalign aligners can correct most underbites, severe cases may require Invisalign treatment combined with surgery.

Crossbite: A crossbite is characterized by upper and lower jaws that are misaligned, and upper teeth that sit inside your lower teeth. Crossbites can cause teeth to wear or chip, and may result in gums receding, and may even cause little notches above your gum line. This damage often leads to painful gum problems or even bone loss.

Gapped Teeth: Gaps or spaces between teeth may be the result of the continued growth of the jawbone, or due to teeth shifting out of alignment. Gapped teeth can potentially lead to gum problems, periodontal pockets, and an increased risk of periodontal disease.

Open Bite: An open bite happens when the upper and lower teeth don’t make contact when your mouth is closed. This condition can result in painful chewing, or speech impairment, and can also result in a painful condition called temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD).

Crowded Teeth: This usually happens when there isn’t enough space in your jaw for all your teeth to fit normally. If left untreated, your teeth can bunch up, overlap and twist, and some may get pushed to the front or the back. Crowding of mouth can get worse over time, resulting in severely crooked teeth. That, in turn, can lead to plaque accumulation, tooth decay, and an elevated risk of developing gum disease.

Generally Straighter Teeth: If you like your smile but really want to love it, Invisalign will make the small fixes needed to make a big difference. Experience the difference!

The Invisalign Procedure

We will begin transforming your smile with a consultation during which we will discuss your needs and your treatment goals and desired outcomes. A scanner will take images of your teeth, which we will use to develop your custom treatment plan, including precise movements of your teeth as well as the length of treatment. You will even get to see a preview of your new smile!

You will need to wear your aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours a day to ensure you achieve the best straightening results. As you move from one set of aligners to the next, your teeth will gradually shift into alignment. After you attain your desired smile, you will need to wear a retainer to prevent your teeth from moving back to the original position.
