Reviewing Your Dental Sedation Options

Are you someone who struggles to feel at ease during a dental visit? While some people are reluctant to schedule care when they need more involved work, others with heightened dental anxiety can have a hard time with routine care. Dental anxiety is not something to be taken lightly. At our Greensboro, NC dental practice, we can actually provide a helpful solution in the form of dental sedation. There are three different options that we can provide, with each one offering a different degree of support. Between your access to sedation and our commitment to comfortable care and lifelike treatments, you can find that you are more than happy to come back for future visits!

Does Unease About Dental Work Affect You?

If you are uneasy about the idea of dental work, you should know that you are not the only one—many people experience some degree of dental anxiety. While this is not something you should be embarrassed about, you should see it as something to work through. Not doing so can lead to delayed or skipped appointments. This makes you more vulnerable to oral health issues that require restorative dental work. It can also leave time for complications to develop that require more involved care! Fortunately, in addition to prioritizing patient comfort and attractive results, we can provide sedation during your appointments to help you stay calm and comfortable in the dentist’s chair.

Why We Offer More Than One Form Of Dental Sedation

There are three different forms of sedation that we provide for our patients.

  • Nitrous oxide—laughing gas—can help you feel relaxed in the dentist’s chair as your care proceeds. The gas is continuously administered through the nose while you are treated. At the end of your appointment, you can find that the gas’ effect dissipates quickly.
  • Oral sedatives can be prescribed to patients, which are taken either the day of an appointment or the night before. Sedation in this form helps with physical relaxation, making work easier, but is not typically used for pain relief.
  • IV sedation offers more potent effects, which can help patients with greater degrees of dental fear as well as those who need more advanced services. We can safely administer this form of support to help you remain comfortable and prevent physical discomfort.

We Help Patients Enjoy Better Experiences In The Dentist’s Chair

Dental sedation can help people who find oral health care stressful, but it is not the only measure we have in place to make appointments at our office easier. We take care to make every visit a positive one, and we spend time learning about your needs, preferences, and concerns to better tailor your care experience. We can also provide treatments that preserve and even improve the quality of your smile, giving you something to look forward to after work is done!
